Backstory: In college, I decided to make a list of films that I wanted to see or been told to see. Some are genuine classics and others... aren't. This is why my list has films like Spice World and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Turtles in Time side-by-side with film by Ingmar Bergman.
If you haven't made a movie list, I highly encourage you to do so. It will always keep you busy and less wasteful with your free time. There are few things I hate more than having some free time to watch a couple movies and, after it's all over, I realize they were movies I never wanted to watch in the first place (Kickin it Old Skool, I'm looking in your general direction).
Over the years, I whittled my list down to 260 until recently when some friends gave me a book of "501 Must-See Movies". I went through and added ones that were not already on my list and now I am back up to about 450.
End backstory.
I've been watching a lot of movies lately and wanted to make some notes on a few of them that truly stood out.
White Heat - Cagney is absolutely nuts. A great acting job to watch.
Mrs. Miniver - Wow. Greer Garson just brought it.
Show Boat - I watched what is considered the best version (1936) and must say that Paul Robeson sitting on the dock and singing "Ol' Man River" has now entered my top five greatest moments in a musical. I got goosebumps watching it.
Safety Last! - Everyone knows the shot where Harold Lloyd is hanging from the second hand on a clock tower miles above the ground... but there are several moments that were far more nerve-wracking than that one.
Zulu - A great film; it would be much better today because of the advancements we've made with realistic blood, violence, etc. The long scenes where scores of Zulu warriors are singing and chanting is truly beautiful.
That is all for now.
